Medicare rebates have been shrinking in the last ten years and they now cover only half the cost of a GP consult. GPs have been battling to provide a quality healthcare service without charging the less well off. However, business costs have kept rising beyond your Medicare rebate.
Pensioners, Veteran Affairs patients and children under the age of 16 years are generally bulk billed.
We will continue to bulk-bill for most chronic disease management plans, mental health plans and injections and vaccination services.
Telephone consultations will no longer be bulk-billed.
